Re: 2011 Van Nats
I am looking forward to being there and catching up with Old and New Friends.
I give full credit to the Organisers of all past Nationals and all future Nationals for all the hard work that goes into organising such an Event. Twelve (12) months of giving what little spare time you have for four (4) days of Vanning. Thank you One and All.
No one always gets things right, the best we can do is learn from our experiences and move forward in a positive direction. Keep Learning. One thing is for certain, you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.
As with all things in life, it is up to you what you want to make of it. It's just nice to make a few Friends along the way to enjoy the finer things with.
Nothing personal in any of my comments, you can take it how you wish. It's not something I'll debate with you. These are my personal thoughts, not yours.
I understand that there will be some changes for the better at Phillip Island in 2011. After all, as everyone was informed, 2010 was a low budget Van Nats.
Yes, Sean and I (I'm Russell by the way) put together a Proposal for 2011 at Albury on behalf of Majestic Vanners. Firstly thank you to the VCV for allowing us to present this at the Venue deciding meeting. Thank you to Sean for putting the bits and pieces for the Proposal together while he was quite ill and bed ridden. Thank you to all the Majestic Vanners who were prepared to put all differences aside (without prompting) and organise/run such a prestigeous Event.
It was clear at the Van Nats that as no one else had put forward a Proposal at that time, the VCV would put on the 2011 Van Nats.
We as Majestic Vanners had been discussing tossing our hats into the ring to put a Van Nats on. I had done some preliminary work contacting organisations within Albury/Wodonga from whom we had strong support.
Unfortunately due to conflicting information from various sources (No blame on anyone!) we canned the idea. We were contacted by a VCV Member (with good intentions) who shall remain anonymous on the Saturday/Sunday before the vote who indicated strong support for an Albury bid. As such we regrouped and put in a proposal which lacked some of the details needed, which was a pretty good effort considering the time frame we had.
It went to the Vote. We lost. End of story as far as I am concerned. Move on.
That is not to say that I won't be part of any future bids. I'd like to see a joint venture between the states sometime in the near future.
By the way, to the best of my knowledge none of the Majestic Vanners are currently Members of the VCV. I am considering joining, but a NSW Van Council is more important to me at the moment. We did not influence the VOTE. (Get your facts right.)
The way I see things is if you want to change things, you need to become more involved. No point sitting on the side lines complaining, you need to be on the inside to make change.
Think about it.
I look forward to having a quiet drink and an enjoyable conversation with all of you at various times and at various venues in the future, hopefully there will be quite a few at Phillip Island 2011.
Keep on Vannin'!
Regards
Rusty!

Re: 2011 Van Nats
Well said Rusty.
Reading through the previous posts almost made me cry.
The vanning crew in Australia is so small it's sad to see such in-fighting.
CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG !
I hope to be attending many more Van Nats in the future no matter where in Aust they are,
or who was brave enough to put in the hard work to get it off the ground.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: 2011 Van Nats
If we receive sufficient sponsorship and entries and can afford to do so, yes there will be merchandise to buy. Unfortunately, this year the nats were done on a tight budget and therefore, the cost of additional merchandise could not be met. Happy to supply, but we need the money fork out the payments first. We'll see what we can do.....

Re: 2011 Van Nats
that's ok.... would u like to sponsor ????
all info is now also available on www.vanning.org.au wesbsite but you should all have received your info via snail mail or email by now. We can be contacted on vannats@live.com.au if you have any queries.
thanks all
Maz
remember, anyone can sponsor, it doesn't have to be a large amount but it will make a difference as to what is available to purchase and in the goody bags.....

Re: 2011 Van Nats
FYI - venue lookg good, trophies being organised, merchandise being organised... keep those entries coming. Keep in mind that if you don't continue paying for your entry, it means we have less cash flow to spend on merchandise and the like. It may end up the same as this year if the cash flow from entries slows down. Last easter ended up a good nats, but only after everyone rocked up and THEN paid for their entry... it needs to be re-iterated that if the money for the entries and sponsorships does not come in early enough, we cannot organise t-shirts, stubby holders etc. for everyone. The forms need to be in, the money needs to continue to come in... otherwise merchandise etc will be once again limited. We've had a good start on receiving entries.... let's keep it going. PS: you don't have to pay it all at once, you can make partial payments which is also easier on your hip pocket... feel free to contact us if you have any queries. Thanx.

Re: 2011 Van Nats
I just received some disturbing news that the theme for 2011 Nats has been changed from "Super heroes" to a "War" theme., not happy if this is correct as I have already got my super hero costume worked out ????????
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the official theme is??

Re: 2011 Van Nats
i think there's been a communication breakdown and someone left a few bits out along the way... a bit like chinese whispers.... the theme has always been "war heroes and war villains". This is something that Ian stipulated straight from the beginning. Reason for this is that easter falls on the same weekend as ANZAC day and Ian thought it be good to keep the theme going for the nationals, hence also the basis of the aussie flag for the nationals artwork. Any queries, let us know at vannats@live.com.au... I don't always have time to visit all the forums and FB, but I do check the email address regularly, so please direct any queries to the email.
thanks

Re: 2011 Van Nats
Thanks Maz., I appreciate the time you take, and you're explanation
But you would think that depending on which side you were on "Who are the villains and who are the heroes...." particularily in todays multicultural society., don't want to offend anyone....and the only WAR I was personally affected by was Vietnam.... with the ballot taking place in the building I was working in....and we were all locked in the stairwell for our own safety not a very good memory of thousands of people marching through Melbourne descending on the Princes bridge Towers trying to break down the doors, and I only worked there........Something I don't ever want to relive.
I appreciate the effort of the decision makers for the Nats., but think (on this occassion) because of the party atmosphere which we all look forward to participating in would be inappropriate for the sacrifices made by all those men and women, while we participate in the frivolity of "fancy dress"

Re: 2011 Van Nats
can understand where you're coming from Kath, but let's not lose sight of the fact that we are there to party.. so if u dress up or not is your choice. For years I used to think than ANZAC day and rememberance day were a celebration of war... it's taken me years to realise that its not a celebration, but a reminder of the disaster of war, what it means to families, customs and cultures. The devastating impact it has all because there are some pigheaded culturalists or religious nuts out there that can not and will not accept others with their beliefs and cultures. It is with this in mind, that we should partake in the remembering of those who were heroes and those that were villains and ensure our younger population does not let astrocities of the past come back to revisit - if they did, it would be the end of our beautiful country and world, and even the planet as we know it.
