im up to hooking up new electronic ignition i have been told i need full 12v to hei. is it true that if you hook up the pink resistor wire and yellow wire thats on ignition switch you will get 12v? if not what is the best way of achieving 12v. thanks ryan

Best to run it on 12v as the 9v will give a reduced spark and shorten the life of the coil.
Forget the resistor wire altogether.
What you will need is a 12v ignition supply to the coil.(one that stays 12v when you turn the key to the start position) - otherwise you will have no supply when winding the car over hence no spark to start it.

i just doubled up the pink and yellow wire and once cranking it over the coil wire has 11v would this be enough or should i do as you said.

What sort of voltage does it have with ignition on at the coil??

when its turned to ignition coil wire has 13.5v

If you leave the yellow wire seperate and not in use, do you still get 12v at coil on ignition and start positions?

before yellow was joined i had 12v on coil wire on ignition but when cranking it dropped to around 7v
