Mystery machine Empty Mystery machine

Post by petrolhead 17/3/2009, 2:26 pm

I've been watching a lot of Scooby doo cartoons lately with my 6 year old daughter and I've realised that she is as observent as me. She doesn't know what the origional van was based on (either a Ford econoline, Corvair or early Dodge) but she has noticed that sometimes there is 2 doors at the back while other times there is only one and inside the rear of the van it is either empty, full of computer equipment or there is a engine there. In some of the latest cartoons it seems that they have traded the old girl as the latest Mystery Machine seems to be based on a Gmc. No wonder they call it a Mystery Machine as it probably doesn't know what it is either.

I have 12 hours of recorded ScoobyDoo mainly shows with van.
At Target, WallyWorld Walmart and SuperKmart, matchbox 5 pack has white ford transit gang on side. I just traded about 40 diecast cars and vans last week from my extra ruff.

perhaps at different stages the gang used different vans...

Being a corporation, Mystery Inc. probably used leasing plans and upgraded their Vehicle every few years....
I wonder if Mystery Inc.'s paint guy got sick of redoing their scheme onto different vans... (surely he would've been tempted to "upgrade the image")...
Who knows they might have even been endorsed by different motor companies at different times... one of them might have bailed and they found another sponsor -( it happens - who remembers the holden stormriders? they drove magnas in about 1998).

If this they did get sponsorship then the kids really are brainiacs because as far as i know B.A's Van is a self funded project... (i don't think he would claim any vehicle exspense come tax time... my guess is soldiers of fortune from the underground wouldn't claim... would kinda defeat the purpose of hiding from the government.)

Another point would be there's probably a whole heap of stuff that happened to them while the cameras and animators weren't following them around, not to mention the stuff they did capture but didn't make the final cut. probably would look to good if they broadcast the times the Van was trashed because someone F*d up. i rekon shaggy was probably a little under the influence of one too many cookies more than once... he probably got so baked he let Scooby drive.... thats at least one or two vans written off right there.

hey crazy-bob what year model is the Transit? maybe the Ford was a lemon and they moved on to a Chev...
how long will you be out in OZ for? jus doing sydney and the Nats trip?

just a thought... since the A team were hiding from the government, why would BA build such a distinctive looking Van?
He even put the A Team Logo emblazened on the side.
Surely it would have made more sense to make a more inconspicuous looking Van... a white stocker or something.

Next year ot two may start inport transit. Ford may stop for size vans like dodge. It look looks like Transits and MecSprint world wide vans.
The scooby doo five matchbox packs 2 have been transits, 1 vw, 1 chevy and a bedford.

In the cartoons I would still think that the flat nosed van would be either Ford Econoline, Corvair or early Dodge have a look at some links through this site and you will see what I mean but it's definatly no Transit

Next year or two may start inport transit. Ford may stop full size vans like dodge did. It look looks like Transits and MecSprint world wide vans.
The scooby doo five matchbox packs 2 have been transits, 1 vw, 1 chevy and a bedford. Here I was talking about dircast vans.
Hotwheels have made diecast like van cartoons. It do look a lot between VW and Corvair, some others like a Bedford to me.

The Mystery Machine in the first Scooby Doo Feature Movie was a Short wheel Base CF bedford with the grille modified to have an extra bar across the middle. The same as Micka's with a slightly different grille. The one at Universal is just a poor mock up

Getting back to the original cartoon version of Scooby Doo, both Scooby and Shaggy were pot heads and drove a Kombi (hence the flower power hippy types) that they were based on. I was talking about this with the kids and although in the recent movie version (made in Australia) on the gold coast the van they used was a CFS Bedford as M&M suggested
