when did vanning start Au & first van event?

from my memory the first shows started around 1973 tho i am sure someone will correct me.

maybe you were made in a van?? Van.. not meaning any offence, as my first born was conceived in the back of a van i had in 1978..

i was offerened. i was conceived in a back of a falcon wagon. my brother got a EH wagon. lucky guy...i was so upset when i found out. maybe why i love my Holdens.

now that would be funny, tho i;m not far from the famous Bells Beach i used to throw the surf board in the van ahd head down there nearly every weekend but missed out on the surf so many times as i would see some nice babes in Lorne or Appolo Bay and when i got to Bells Beach i'd get the board out of the van and jump in the back with a babe.. and then it was too dark to go out for a wave.. bugger.

PS: now i wont go to the beach the greenies keep try to roll me back in water..

them greenies get up my nose also.. maybe i should pick it more often

if the first event was around '73, then i wasn't quite a teenager... hmmm not as old as some and not as young as others.... that would make me um.... um..... i know, middle aged! bugger! damm!

O.M.G. 1973 aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh I remember That was the year of our first wedding anniversary and we went to Arthur Garland country to celebrate and that makes me prehistoric but loving it

ahhhhh 1973... and the killer XU-1s. but i dont remember that either as i was only a few months old.

Getting back to the original question "when did vanning start in Aust,"
I will do some research but in 1976 the biggest van show to date in Melbourne was held at Southland with over 200 vans on display, so definately before that there obviously more shows.

the local spare parts bloke here had vans. mostly falcons. he would tell of vanning cruises and showed me pics of a drive to Canberra and as far in front and behind all you could see were vans. maybe 200 he reckons and about 6 vans clubs. now vans are back but the young kids are getting these box vans. and little injected 4 pots.

Just found out one of the first know of Van shows in Australia was in 1971,, Cliff "VanDad" is doing a book on Vanning in Australia with all of its origns and how some mates got together and started doing mods with thier van going through the the different clubs, shows and the whole scene etc. Keep an eye out on www.vanning.org.au for its release next year sometime..

PS: he is still wanting help with info eg. Holden and ford details, option codes to add all this the the book to make it very helpful so it will help identifing a van you have or you are looking at.. if you can help him pm vandad from the forums member list.
