i think i got it XA and XB doors are the same shape (XC have different window shape on rear doors like samsy351 mentioned) but XAs have integrated exterior door handles in the door skin with just the handle seperate where as the XB & XC have complete inserts. Not sure about the bootlids.

Post by DRM ON 17/1/2011, 12:48 pm

few more updates lately.

got the bay blasted the other day so I can begin getting the engine in (to give me some more room in my shed haha)

My xy van project - Page 2 65461199

My xy van project - Page 2 4de46fe3

bay came up really good, Only rust that I found was in the lower rad support section but I already knew about that bit. So my mate who is a far better welder then me made me up a new front and back section and we welded it all in

My xy van project - Page 2 C81250db

My xy van project - Page 2 7accdeb4

then after alot of changing of colours we painted the bay. I know I was going to keep the car original colour but I really really wanted a metallic sort of colour and after alot of different ideas I decided to go with the xy teal glow colour and im so glad I did. its come up a treat

My xy van project - Page 2 167083_491513644359_580479359_5655186_7255537_n

My xy van project - Page 2 166189_491513719359_580479359_5655190_3331573_n

and thats it for now, hopefully this wkend I can get the power steering and engine setup and everything in and have a bit more of an update.

Cheers
Brad

cool brad your doing a great job my engine bay is ready to media blast ive got a few bags of glass beads an garnet to do it my self but will be a few weeks away yet
and i got a bit of rust in the same spot as you but it goes into the chasy rail so itll take a bit more repair than yours but ill chop bits out of donar car an weld that in yeah that colour looks great i like it no wories its looking very nice for the type of resto your doing as the colour is a real hard decition to make im thinking something darker either dark silver grey or black i cant decide so u got a major hurdel out the way with that choice colour
if u need any engine bits of a 188 u can have anything of the old boat anchor i pulled out of the ute befor i chuk it to the recyclers and the 3 speed box is going u can have that if u need it or anyone wants any bits of it keep up the great work brad i can only try an keep up with you haha

Haha cheers mate but I won't be needing any boat anchor parts either haha. I got my engine in today finally. Was all pretty straight forward actually. Just need to find an aircon pump that might fit in there cause the factory one hits the shock tower

Many with XF & XG Just ding in the tower with a rubber hammer!
Not good to do now.....
The cut a section out & turn it round & weld back in is the preferred method prior to painting!!!
Both Clevo & Windsor Have these issues.... Have a peek at some of the windsor powered F Series trucks, many have high mount (Like XC) compressors, Take some measurements to see if the space is available to you!

Sorry to Hijack!!!!! Loving these FORD threads!

Haven't heard of any issues with oil filter in the later falco's (after XP that is!)...
Know a few would have had oil filter issues in Capri's, Cortina's, Sigma's & Mazda's, but its easily fix with 1 of 2 options, Remote mount (if you have plenty of $$$$) or the good oil "check the Ryco Book" and use a slightly shorter filter, can't remember the numbers for them, but there's 1 that's only 3/4 of the stcock filter & another that is 1/2 the length. Both have exactly the same flow & rating as the stock filter!

Air-conditioning is always an issue, 2 many mounts available, 2 many compressor styles.

Power Steering pumps can be an issue with clearance to battery trays, but they can be turned slightly or relocated to the boot!

Heater Core outlets in the XF's is a drama with Clevo's, fouls on the head.... but you can either lengthen the pipes on the core so as the enter the engine bay higher (via a/c pipe entry) or fitt hydraulic fittings to the core & use a tight 90deg sweep fitting on the firewall. Or just not connect it at all!

there is a Falcon forum, http://www.xfalcon.com/ I've put plenty stuff there (so I don't forget it the next time) as well as other who are doing weird & wonderfull shit!
Even a guy fitting a GEN3 to an XF!

If your gunna do anything, someone on xfalcon's probably already has! Great wealth of knowledge on there, just ready for the milking!!!!

Ah x falcon is prob the only site I havnt asked about the aircon pumps on haha

Mate you won't have any prob putting a clevo into your van. I've had heaps. Clevos in xys and the xrtwy bay is all the same. Main reason for me usin the aircon is cause I have (had anyway haha) everything to do it. So why not have that bit of comfort.
My main issue with the aircon pump has been the outlet for the au pumps being at the back. I've done some research and have found that the Ed pumps outlet is on top. This means it should fit in my van. So now I have to try and find one I can measure up locally so I don't fork out cash for another pump that just won't fit haha
