Ok so ive spent the day pulling out the rear interior done by the previous owner and found the cargo area floor is AS NEW condition Very Happy

On my last van (25yrs ago) the matty was straight on the floor but this time i want to build side cupboards and all the good gear up to and including a custom roof lining.

So, my Question is this, do you guys recommend a false floor of 19mm ply for a level serface to build up from or would you go straight onto the steel floor.? scratch

yep for 2 main reasons:

1: great for getting everything even and aliined easy.

2: save the knees big time when getting in & out while building it.

buy lay down some thin rubber or foam un the deck to kill road noise and stop any slapping of the panel
on the floor on the rough roads.

PS: 12 mm MDF would be better than ply as it has a better resinanse for road noise

very excellent idea, I hadnt even thought of road noise and vibration cheers
As for the knees their shot anyway but foam will help. I wore them out in the last van but thats a whole other story Wink

the menace has always been MDF and at all the shows where it rained it was left open and i have never had a problem but you can always
wack a quick coat of cheap sealer on it if you perfer. but its your call..

I use 12mm ply on the floor with all the camper van I build, but in the past I used 12mm mdf it's just a bit heaver, and can last just as long.
As Daz said give it a clear coat of laquer, oh mdf is cheaper.
