WANTED: 2.60 or 2.78 ratio diff Empty WANTED: 2.60 or 2.78 ratio diff

Post by Guest 28/12/2009, 1:25 pm

I'm after a 2.60 (preferably) or 2.78 ratio diff to suit my HJ.
Axles & Brakes a bonus but not a must.
Newcastle area prefered but will travel a couple of hours for the right priced one.

i think you will hard prssed for a 2.6 ratio. i had one along time ago. it was from a WB Statesman and i got a set of them brakets welded to the diff for the leaf springs. up front was a 253 M21 box. rode the clutch badly just to take off. that ratio made for a really tall 1st gear. it maybe ok with a M20 box or a supra 5.

Fortunatly it's going behind a 308 auto, and it'll be running 14" wheels, so take off shouldn't be to much of a drama for it.
There was a complete 2.60 ratio diff on EBAY in November, to suit ute/van for $150, but it was in Victoria.
It'd cost to much in freight to get it up here.

Unfortunatly it's a traumatic, but i'm easy on diffs.
Had a worked 308, turbo 700 in my HG and had a 2.78 6cyl Banjo diff in it.
It was like that for 8 years and never even replaced an axle.

WANTED: 2.60 or 2.78 ratio diff Empty Re: WANTED: 2.60 or 2.78 ratio diff

same as me. ive got 308 trimatic with 3.36 diff ratio. about the 100kph my van is doing 2600. i have a small cam and its rpm range is 2500-5200. when on the freeway its right in the middle of the torque range. i found its good on fuel for a old carbie motor. when i had a 2.60 ratio diff i found it to be heavy on fuel. the revs where down on the freeway which needed more throttle to overtake and it was more work on the motor pushing that ratio around town.

WANTED: 2.60 or 2.78 ratio diff Empty Re: WANTED: 2.60 or 2.78 ratio diff

Post by Guest 1/1/2010, 2:52 pm

No problems.
I was getting about 25l/100 around town and 22l/100 on the highway with a 3.08 ratio and 14" tyres.
Currently getting about 26l/100 around town and 21/100 on the highway with 2.78 ratio and 15" tyres.

Bearing in mind this is a tired motor in the HZ, and i have another currently in the build process, so that will be different.

i was getting 20L/100 in town driving and 17L/100 freewaywith the old cam that was given to me. it was that big.i gave it a rev and broke 2 rockers and bent 3 push rods. it had a jetted up rochester. it was about 800cfm. now is a small cam. vn heads with redline inlet manifold. nice exhaust and a 600 holley. around town its getting 15L/100. just like the injected 5L VN and have seen about 12.5L/100 on a long trip if i keep it just under 100kph.

I hope to get that as well. Very Happy
I'm only going to have a small cam 1800-4800rpm range with EFI so i'll be similar figures. HOPEFULLY
