Auto or manual? Floor shift?

From Old holden .com

Column Shift Manual Gearbox Reverse Switch:

On Column Shift models the Reverse Switch is mounted above the Steering Column at the Firewall inside the Car.

Column Shift Automatic Gearbox Reverse Switch:

On Column Shift models the Reverse Switch is inside the Neutral Safety Switch. The Neutral Safety Switch is mounted on the top of the Steering Column at the Firewall.

T-Bar Automatic Gearbox Reverse Switches:
On T-Bar Automatic Gearbox models the Reverse Switch is inside the Neutral Safety Switch. The Neutral Safety Switch is mounted under the centre Console and bolted to the T-Bar.

3 and 4 Speed Floor Shift Manual Gearboxes:

On 3 and 4 Speed Floor Shift Manual Gearbox models the Reverse Switch is bolted to the Gearbox and activated by movement of the Selector Levers.

With age many of the switches are failing (some just dirty contacts inside switch).

Locate the switch and make sure it is functioning 100% before worrying about the wiring!

In most cases it will be a switch or switch adjustment issue!

Wiring in the old Holdens is pretty good (even old as it is), its quite often only the connector plugs that will let you down!
