I once saw a HG Ute at Eastern Creek (for a ride day) and it had a VL 3l turbo with a 5 speed in it.
It had stock looking rims, body, interior, venetian etc and was a true sleeper.

Great choice of van mate. Had my fair share of EJ,s and EH,s over the years. Stilll got an EJ van now as well as an EJ and EH ute as well. Just love them. Build seems to be coming along nicely. Keep up the good work and go the 60,s Holden vans. Cool

Awesome van mate!!!
My mate had a hd sedan with a rb30 turbo, shortened vl turbo diff, but auto.
He used the vl brakes front and back and ran 15" commo chasers. The rears were widened inwards up to 10" and he minitubbed it. Lowered, whitewalls, venetians, sunvisor and even a crocheted rug over the back seat. Full sleeper! Oh and he had rear wheel spats......looked ace.
Can't wait to see this old girl finished...

The hd was BEAUTIFUL!! He ran an aftermarket computer with multiple pre-sets. It was very economical for everyday driving then you press another button and it sets up a 2 stage boost- 12psi take off and 18psi at 4000rpm. Driving at 100km in 4th (manual shift auto), click it into 3rd and plant your foot and watch the smoke peel off the back... what a site!! The ride was awesome with dropped spindle fronts to keep the full travel. Ebayed it a few years back and a bloke from WA flew over and drove it back. He rang up and said he averaged 8.5L/100km but it was a little high because of the long straight roads and lack of coppers in the outback.....
He regrets selling it still to this day!!
