soda blasting is the best as it wont distort any large panels and leaves a much smoother surface tor paint prep.

a good one to try os Soda blast:

Rust sand and soda blasting Empty Sanding

Post by jimmy_bob 13/12/2009, 1:00 am

thanks menace. now i'm wondering about the sanding part. ive got a bit of surface rust and i really need it gone but i really havnt done anything this big before. ive only done plastic bumpers sanding back and getting repainted. does anyone have any advice when it comes to sanding the panels back so i can get it painted. ie what size grit should i be using. Also, the gutter that runs along the top of the van is fairly rusted, has anyone ever cut this off and sanded it back???

if your getting it soda blasted you dont need to pre sand anything if they do it right. if you still need to sand some parts someone else will give advice on that.

Heres a sample of Soda blasting:

Panel business and spray painting...quite good! They are doing a 2 door Monaro at the moment 73 model ... going to be worth a mint once they are finished with it, the dude is pay 14k for the spray job...he got it 3 yrs ago from some guy that wanted quick money sold it to him for $400 bucks!!

I wonder how my van is going...mmmmm tempted to go see her, but dont wana annoy them while they are trying to work on herrr
