2010 VAN NATIONALS ADVICE SHEET

Wasteland VC on behalf of the Van Council of Victoria would like to invite all Vanners to the 2010 Van Nationals to be held at The Gap Road Accommodation on Phillip Island in Victoria.

An Entry Form is attached detailing the entry prices and associated costs for the event. This year entry is per person rather than for the vehicle. This has come about as the campground will be charging us on a per head basis, where in the past we have had a fixed price for the venue. The 2010 Goody Bag will NOT have free pins, patches or any of the other goodies you have been used to. In an attempt to keep the costs to a minimum these items will have to be purchased at the time of entry.

Something different for the 2010 event is the prices are based on 2 options, one being with Breakfast and Dinner supplied for the 4 nights and the other without. The venue was originally set up for motor bikes during the Grand Prix and therefore their camp sites are based on what is required for bike riders. This also means they have on site caterers to provide breakfast and dinner, however, these MUST be pre-ordered at the time of entering the event. Pre-entry cut off is the VCV meeting on Thursday 4th March 2010. If your entry and payment is not received prior to this date you will have to supply your own food as caterers will only be supplying for pre-entrants who have taken the “with meals option”.

Lunches will be available for purchase from the caterers for everyone.

The Venue is licensed and has a strict NO BYO policy. This is s requirement as part of their liquor license. Any alcohol bought into the campsite will be confiscated. A list of bar prices is also attached. These prices are for full cans or stubbies. If there are items not shown on the list please let us know as they are happy to get in drinks to keep us all happy. The bar will be open from early (as this is also the location for breakfast) until 1:00am most nights. Free Tea and Coffee will be available in the bar all weekend. The Bar area, (called the BAAA) will be the central point for most activities. At this point there might be a DJ for the Saturday night, which will of course be the fancy dress night. The Theme for the weekend is “Vantasy Island” as this is the first time the Van Nationals has not been held on the mainland. We are going to an island so the Vantasy Island theme seemed appropriate.

Most of the camping area does not have power, however there are a couple of small powered sites available in an area beside the main camp area. There are also a couple of bunk houses where you can rent a bunk bed in a dormitory type set up for an additional fee. This might suit any Interstate or Overseas Vanners who just need a bunk for the weekend.

Toilets and showers are quite civilised compared to some we have had in the past. There is also a small laundry available if required.

The show and shine will be held in a large paddock with green grass which is onsite as part of the venue.

The judging for the show will be a bit more formal than this year, however, the trophy list is being totally reviewed. At the moment the only trophies we will guarantee are Entrants’ Choice, which will be judged by a selected cross section of the entrants similar to what was done at Post MacDonnell. The Top Ten will be kept and these will be fully judged. Copies of the judging sheets were put on the Vanners’ Forum earlier this year if any one wants to see what they consist of.

We are also looking to include more participation from Sponsors in selecting the vehicles for the awards they sponsor. There will also be more emphasis on vehicles participating in the events for the weekend rather than purely show.

At the time of writing this we are not sure if there will be car games. There will not be a burnout competition but we might be able to have some grass games. We are waiting to hear from the owners of the property regarding this request.

Personal motor craft will be allowed within reason. Any under aged riders must have sufficient adult supervision as we will not be held responsible for any accidents or injuries incurred. This is a bonus we have agreed to but if it is abused or if anyone is caught being stupid the use of such vehicles will be banned.

There will be a curfew on all motor vehicles of 8:00pm. Any vehicles being driven after this time will have to have a legitimate reason for doing so.

Also any one bringing generators will also be asked to shut them off at 10:00pm so kids (big and small) can sleep without the noise of generators running all night.

Camp fires are not permitted due to local regulations. Weather and restrictions permitting there will be a central camp fire just outside the bar area.

Some of the popular events from previous Nats will be retained, such as the rocker cover racing and the remote control cars. There is a tennis court on site where trials can be set up, with the rocker cover finals to be held on the show day. Or you can just bring a tennis racket.

There will be a cruise organised for the Saturday, however, we have not finalised the location. We are working on a couple of ideas.

A discount entry price into the Vietnam Veterans Museum has been negotiated. Entry price of $5.00 per head. If groups of 20 go together a free tour guide will also be provided. Tour is expected to take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Times for tours will be organised a little closer to the event.

The Race track is about 400 meters from the venue, and depending on what is on at the time there might be the opportunity to drive around the track. There is an additional cost for this but we can not confirm availability until their official calendar is released later in the year.

This Nationals has been organised as a more back to basics event and may not contain all the whizz-bang stuff you are used to but we will have an excellent time.

For any questions or correspondence please contact us by email to: VanNats@live.com.au or phone Mandy on 0412 948 277 (if she is busy leave a message and one of us will get back to you ASAP)
