lot of anger in there, i enjoy reading that forum for the modern SS but wow they spend some coin on them to me its just a modern taxi to ferry us, yes i look after it but cant justify big dollars on it, its brand new,
still havent seen many modern ute conversions about does ne one know how many were knocked up?

you can really go over board. lucky my first love is my van so i worked on that rather than my C'dore. but i do enjoy my SS. it goes. it stops it really hangs on the road and its got a/c. with the tune it has. i can run down a VE SS 6L. The Mambo Sandman was a Van. no rear window in that, but when they came out they are a ute with a conopy made here and the fireglass came from Sweden they sold 315 on them. they didnt take off as well.as i called the company that made them for holden but Holden told them to scrap the moulds when the last VZ ute was done as per contract. it was only to be fitted to newly sold utes and not to people off the street.

so VCV came round, recognised HBD SS as Vans (have to remove glass?)
then he says sure its may not be a van but the brochure refers to sandman, so it must be a sandman um ute,
Hey VAN how are your compliance plates marked for such a mod?

i looked into buying one. but they are still over priced. my mate has a VY ute with HBD canopy. its plated ute and he has taken out the rear window to be a van. but its a ute with no sound deadening in the rear and the tail gate is only like perspex so with the windows down. the pressure in the cab pops open the top tail gate and being a ute theres no real seals on the tail gates. so you do get exhaust smell in the front. and really bloody noisey.

INTERESTING READ
The ute/van was decided to be classed as a van even though it is plated as a ute, if it looks like a van and is used in the spirit of vanning then it is classed as a van, even Ambo's are classed as a van. And it was not the VCV's decision, it was put to a vote to all that was at the nats but as a decision was not reached there, correspondance was asked for about peoples thoughts and as the VCV was that year running the nats the decision was made to include the commodore as a van at an upcoming general meeting. As the VCV was really the only active authority in the van scene the conclusion was decided at their meeting a couple of months down the track after all correspondance was concidered, so it was the input from everyone that made the decision of what was to be. It was only announced by the VCV. Now i guess none of us have a problem with the decision.
