Kustoms @ the Island pix
Went down with James, met up with plenty. We gave the Van Nats a good push, so with luck there will be even more people and hopefully some more vans coming to Geelong. Saw Vans I hadn't seen, so that is good, and got to ride shot gun with James around the track. HEAPS of Kool rods and customs, with just about the same amount of 1970+ cars aswell. If you are a VW van i am tipping you would have gone away a very happy camper. Must admit the dust was a pain, but luckily a quick tub and it all comes off (on the grass too).
Enjoy the Pix. See you at the Rod show or Tug in NSW or Currarong in NSW.
Group shot
Look out HQ racing the vans are taking over
Sandmans on a race track, now there is some fun
Vandil heads through the corner and sets up for the straight
Everyone likes smiling promo chix
general pix
Oldskool
Not my cup of tea (or mug of bourbon) but I am sure someone likes it
Anthony from NSW with his yellow 33 roadster took out top hot rod and Justin also from NSW took out top custom with his 49 buick, for those that are interested.
cheers mex

Re: Kustoms @ the Island pix
Great Pics Alex, i have some too which i'm finally getting around to post up. Took these yesterday (i worked today so didn't get to go).
A couple of shots around the track, if you look closely you can see a van
There were more vehicles, but some were out on the track, hence the empty spaces
Sorry, can't help myself, it's an EH. There was also a very nice EH wagon which i forgot to photograph... EHPREM was the number plate, in case anybody saw it.
This was is called SPARE - ask Colwyn, he'll tell you
This last one was name PINUPS. It looked really cool, something that would go well on a windowless van....?? Anybody??
Overall an ok show. Don't know whether i'd go again, seems the rules changed and the rules were basically, it's not what you know or what you have, but who you know.... lots of modern stuff on the saturday, however, strict rules were pre-76, chrome bumpers. Hmmm, makes you wonder what the rules really were... 88 chev (straight off showroom floor), modern Vito (the white one), an Alfa Romeo, an AVIS rental bus along with other stuff parked in the show... VanDad's van wasn't allowed in.... neither was mine, fair enough on mine, does have chrome bumper but is '83. However, I would have expected VanDad's to have been allowed in... oh and a stock Malloo ute, but M&M and MP couldn't bring their modifed vans in...go figure. Entry price was up on last year too.

Re: Kustoms @ the Island pix
Maz I got a pic of the EH wagon, will put up when I remember.
Your hard woman to please... There was something there for everyone, rods, customs, stockers and street machines, plently of traders and some great bands. A fair few of the later than 76 in the main area were band/pit crew/race track crew/show helpers cars. John puts his shows on for Rods and Customs and the rockabilly lifestyle, with his main target being customs (that he calls 50-60's styled chopped/channeled/shaved/pancaked/sleded), and we need to respect his thoughts on what he thinks fits the spirit of his runs(does not mean we have to agree to it). My A model Pickup Hot Rod doesn't really fit the bill as it is more of an ealry 90's pro stocker american look, not a true custom. The show exists because of his wife Tina had a vision before she died, and the runs are held in her memory and vision. It is to stop what happened to a day show I go to called Tug in The Park in NSW, late model Low riders and the like starting turning up and sort of took over (had 20+ there one year), I feel out of place with the van there, but thankfully the organisers like chrome bumpers. When people organise runs some choose to specify what they want in. In saying this I was surprised to see a green XF ford sneek in, sure had some mods hardly what I call custom but, didn't spoil the day though.
Sure it can be anoying to some of us, but they are the ones putting on, so they get to allow what they want in. I had some of the organisers comment to me how great it was we had vans there and how well behaved and how much interest was being generated by us, so with a little help we might be able to chip away and get all kinds of vans there next time. parking together and with Cliffs and crew adding in the hand out the leaflet drive, we had a heap of interest. Even the track people loved us.
I was glad to go caught up with not only vanners but many others I know so I had some fun.
I guess we can keep chipping away and embrace as many as we can to the Van nats.
cheers

Re: Kustoms @ the Island pix
no probs mex, don't have a problem with John's vision at all, don't have a problem with organisers calling the shots on what they want in and what not.... it's just it seemed to me that rules were bent when they felt like it and that just peeved me, i guess i wanted my van in as part of the van nats display, but they wouldn't let it.... just didn't seem right when i walked around and saw what WAS let in. and VanDad's wasn't allowed in either even though it was modified... more than some, that's all. just me. voicing my opinion... not having a go at anyone. i had a good time too.

What a great day . Kruised down with Mex, and kruised back with Ian and Jo. Great to see so many ford vans there. Lots of vans, who said vanning was dying. Never seen so many vehicles want to go out on the track and do laps. Huge turn out, enjoy the pics.

More Pics
Here's a few more pics. Heaps of cars there on Sunday. Best I have seen it. There were so many cars that there were rods and customs out in the paddock with us later model cars. Picked a very dusty spot too. Loved the spin on the track although being overtaken by 3 or 4 volkswagons and being told off by my wife for letting it happen was bad for the ego
I have added a few more of the event as all the vans have been captured already.
OK it's a ute but a bloody nice one
